New Mexico State’s Master of Accountancy (MACC) program is designed to give graduate students greater breadth and depth of knowledge to become more adequately prepared for professional accounting practice. The 30-credit curriculum emphasizes the analytical and technical skills required for public, financial, corporate, government, or nonprofit accounting. Coursework will satisfy the state’s 150-hour education requirement for taking the Uniform CPA exam. Students will delve into topics like financial statement analysis, taxation, macroeconomics, business law, enterprise resource planning, auditing, and accounting information systems. No thesis is required, but MACC students must pass a comprehensive exam prior to graduation. Students can receive tuition help with the NMSU Scholar Dollar$ program, summer fellowships, or accounting graduate assistantships.

Anderson School of Management

Available for graduates with or without an accounting background, the Master of Accounting (MACCT) program at UNM is structured to develop the analytical thinking, business acumen, and technical skills for becoming a CPA in New Mexico or most other states. The 33-credit curriculum offers four unique tracks for customization. First, the Professional Concentration is for students with a non-accounting bachelor’s degree to build a strong foundation. The Advanced Concentration is offered to students with an undergraduate degree in accounting from another AACSB-accredited college. The Information Assurance Concentration is designed for accounting students interested in learning about accounting system security, fraud examination, digital forensics, and data analytics. Lastly, the Tax Concentration gives an advanced understanding on the nation’s taxation regulations.

MBA with Accounting Concentration

The Anderson MBA is comprised of 43 credit hours to prepare graduate students with the leadership skills for empowering their career into upper-level management. The program takes an outcome-focused, team-based approach for teaching students how to aptly address key business issues in today’s competitive global economy. MBA students can select from 10 different concentrations, including Accounting. Those going this route will satisfy the CPA requirements with courses in internal auditing, international accounting, tax research, personal financial planning, corporate taxation, and business intelligence. The Becker CPA Review course is built within the concentration. All core classes are available in evenings starting at 4pm or later. A Post-Master’s Certificate is also offered in Information Assurance.
