Once you have your bachelor’s in accounting, you might think about enrolling in one of the accredited accounting degree programs in Wisconsin.
Convenient Online Alternatives
Wisconsin is home to both smaller and larger companies that need qualified and dependable accountants to help them with tasks like filing taxes every year, deciding how much to spend on expenses annually and budgeting for the fiscal year. When you leave one of these degree programs, you’ll better understand how to handle the needs of all your clients and feel ready to sit for the state’s certified public accountant examination, which lets you officially work as a licensed CPA in Wisconsin.
University of Wisconsin Whitewater
College of Business and Economics
The University of Wisconsin Whitewater, also known as just UW-Whitewater, is a public college located in the city of the same name that is part of the University of Wisconsin School System. Founded in 1868 and opened just two years later, it served as the Whitewater Normal School for a number of years. Normal schools at the time offered training and preparatory classes for teachers and helped regulate the professionals working with younger students. After serving as a state teaching college, it became a state college and then later a university before finally becoming one of the larger colleges in the UW system.
Master of Professional Accountancy
Through its College of Business and Economics, the University of Wisconsin Whitewater offers a Master of Professional Accountancy and a number of opportunities for accounting majors too. Beta Alpha Psi and other organizations are open to accounting students, and the university offers classes that help better prepare students for taking the CPA exam later. You must take at least 30 credit hours of classes, including courses on financial management, cost management, auditing and business law. All students must show that they took courses equivalent to the common core. The university may require that you take up to 17 credit hours of core courses before enrolling. Though UW-Whitewater does not require that you do a thesis project, it does require that you take an extensive examination towards the end of your final year. You cannot graduate and earn your degree unless you earn a passing score on this exam, which tests the knowledge you gained throughout the program.
